Uterine Fibroids
A common condition for women of all ages is Uterine Fibroids (muscle tumors in the uterine wall). Some fibroids can remain insignificant, painless and can safely be left alone.
Fibroids can be deep within the uterine wall (Intramural), expand from inside the uterine cavity, through the uterine wall to the outside of the uterus (Transmural). They might also be mostly on the outside of the uterus (Subserosal). Fibroids can be safely removed with minimally invasive surgery. Our goal is to manage the uterine fibroids safely with minimally invasive surgery and preserve fertility whenever possible.
Treatment
Uterine Fibroids can be removed via Laparoscopic Myomectomy, a procedure that involves laparoscopic removal of uterine fibroids with repair of the uterine wall. This outpatient approach is associated with less pain, fewer adhesions, and a quicker recovery than the open approach.
An alternative to Laparoscopic surgery is Hysteroscopic Myomectomy which involves removal of uterine fibroids from the inside of the uterine cavity. Control of bleeding is excellent, fertility is good, and when the patient conceives she will deliver vaginally since there is no incision in the outer uterine wall.
